We have multiple ways at First Baptist Locust for you to share your musical abilities for God’s glory. Even if your ability is really just a love of music without any previous experience or training, there is a place for you to serve!

 

Adult Praise Band – open to instrumentalists ages 16 and up, our Praise Band provides accompaniment to our worship music on Sunday mornings. We are primarily comprised of keyboards, guitar, bass and drums, but can include other instruments on an as-needed basis. Any musician interested in joining the Praise Band must be proficient at his or her instrument, with the ability to read music and/or chord charts. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 6 pm in the Sanctuary.

 

Adult Praise Team – Open to high school graduates and up, this smaller group of vocalists helps to lead music and sings “specials” during our Sunday morning worship services. Most of our songs are contemporary and are learned “by ear”. These singers do need to be able to sing different vocal parts in a small-group setting. While we mainly sing using tracks, we sometimes sing with live music. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 in the Sanctuary.

 

Worship Choir – Open to singers ages 16 and up, this larger group of singers leads our congregational worship music on Sunday mornings and sings special anthems. We sing a variety of musical styles: contemporary, Southern gospel, classic worship anthems, etc. The Worship Choir is the central vocal group at our annual Christmas program, which includes singers of all ages. We sing from printed 4-part choral anthems, but the ability to read music is not requirement. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7pm. We start in the Sanctuary to rehearse with our Praise Team, then finish our rehearsal in the Choir Room.

 

Joyful Song Choir – Our Senior Adult Choir that enjoys singing old hymns, Southern gospel music, and classic songs of praise is open to anyone that enjoys singing these great old songs of the faith. The Joyful Song Choir meets at 10 am in the Choir Room on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, September through May. We sing at area nursing homes at least once a month and occasionally during our Sunday morning worship service. We also participate in the Church-wide Christmas program.

 

Student Praise Team – Our Praise Team for youth in the 6th grade-college (age 22). The Student Praise Team learns Christian songs heard on today’s Christian radio. We sing regularly during our Sunday morning worship service and sometimes help lead our congregational singing. We lead music during Youth Sunday each year and participate in the Christmas program. The Student Praise Team meets on Sunday evenings at 5 pm in the Choir Room.

 

Participation of the church is always encouraged in the worship of the church. Anyone who wishes to sing a solo, duet or ensemble in a given worship service may contact the music minister and schedule a worship service date and time. Call the church at 704-888-2431 .
